Nepal day 24-29: Spending my last days relaxing
Day 24-26
I barely did anything these 3 days, I chilled and recovered from my trek and sometimes I’d go for a walk by the lakeside. I met a Dutch girl called Lisana and we spoke about our trekking adventures which was cool.
There’s plenty of cheap restaurants by the lake with beautiful views which means you can easily chill for hours here. There’s also more upmarket bars and restaurants which can be quite pricey as well.
Day 27
Woke up before 8am which was a first for the last few days. Iโm heading to the world peace padoga today which is on a hill overlooking Pokhara. You can take a boat across the lake and from there itโs an hour hike to the top. However I just walked the whole way taking two hours.
The views are amazing because you can pretty much see the whole of Pokhara from here. The padoga itself is beautiful and peaceful since you have to be silent when you visit. You can also see the Annapurna range from here and the fish tail mountain Machapuchare however it was cloudy for me so I could barely see the mountain peaks.
It was 12 already when I left and I headed back to lakeside where all the tourist shops and restaurants are. I went to a place called fresh elements and I got the rosemary chicken which was delicious! It is a little pricey but worth it. I chilled here for a while using the WiFi after which I walked back to the hostel before sunset.
Day 28
I decided last night I would hike to Sarangkot which is a hill 700m above Pokhara where you can get a beautiful view of the Annapurna mountain range. However I got halfway and I was really tired so I decided to head back down.
It was my last day in Pokhara and I didn’t want to spend it torturing myself! I had momos for lunch which are like dumplings and then I brought some snacks for my bus to Kathmandu tomorrow.
Pokhara is a beautiful place and it’s easy to spend money here because you feel like you should be having fun. It probably ranks as one of my favourite destinations along with Manali and Chiang Mai.
Day 29
I got my bus around 7:30am to Kathmandu. It was a clear morning and you can see the amazing mountains including Machapuchare and Annapurna south but I didn’t take any pictures. It would be my last view of these crazy high peaks.
The bus took 11 hours! There was a lot of traffic heading into Kathmandu and what should’ve taken 8 hours took much longer. I bumped into Lisana again in Kathmandu which was nice, so I had dinner with her and her Dutch friends.
I slept early and tomorrow I start my journey back to the UK with a brief stopover in Mumbai. I’m sad to leave Nepal but it’s been an incredible journey. I guess I miss some things back home, like Fortnite, Nandos and my friends! But suppose I’ll come back to Nepal, like it’s written at the airport, “Once is never enough”.
