My favourite Bollywood movies
Here are my favourite Bollywood movies. Of course I haven’t watched all movies, this is just my opinion on the ones I’ve seen. I prefer modern films, ones that are thought provoking or sporting films.
Here are some movies that just missed the list: Lagaan, PK, No One Killed Jessica, Rang De Basanti, K3G, Ek Tha Tiger/Tiger Zinda Hai, Dhoom 1/2/3, Raees and Don 1/2. Growing up K3G and Dhoom were my favourite movies! But now I’m a bit older my taste has changed a little.
Let me know your favourites and if there’s any movie you recommend me to watch!
15. Veer Zaara
This is my favourite movie that is a little bit older than the others. The story itself is interesting which is based on a court case of the main character. However, it is the nice and detailed finishing touches in the movie which makes it one of my favorites.
14. Uri: The Surgical Strike
An action filled movie providing an insight into the Indian army. So, if you’re patriotic then this a movie you’ll want to watch. How’s the Josh?!
13. Andhadhun
I had so much fun watching this movie because there are so many plot twists. Made altogether more impressive by the acting of Tabu and Ayushmann. Which makes this a must see, purely for the entertainment!
12. Raazi
This is a thriller movie which keeps you on the edge. It is about a spy from India living in Pakistan and their tensions in between war times. Not sure why there is so much hate, maybe we can all be friends again?
11. The Lunchbox
Interesting concept of a movie where a wife’s messages end up going to the wrong person! Irrfan is a great actor and brings the film to life. One of the themes deals with the working life, which I struggle to adapt to.
10. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
I’ve watched this so many times. This was the first Bollywood movie I saw in cinema and coincidentally it was my first date as well! A really fun and chilled out movie to watch.
9. 3 Idiots
This movie deals with the classic case of Indian parents wanting their sons/daughters to be doctors/engineers. Its a funny movie so worth watching for a good laugh!
8. Secret superstar
So this movie is about a girl who wants to follow her love for music but is oppressed by her father and society. It’s a shame Zaira Wasim has moved away from acting cause she was brilliant, but each to their own!
7. Mary Kom
Mary Kom is a real boxer who is still competing at the highest level. This movie goes through the journey of Mary and how she deals with her restrictive parents and childbirth in order to compete for India. Greatly portrayed by Priyanka Chopra.
6. M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story
I love cricket, so naturally this rates high. The movie is a fantastic journey, and provides an interesting insight into Dhoni’s backstory. He’s a legend!
5. Zindagi Na Milenge Dobara
This is such a fun movie to watch. I sway between the characters of Hrithik and Katrina. The movie became more relevant as I grew older and is now one of my favorites.
4. Gully Boy
An entertaining movie, Gully Boy is based on Divine, a person that came from the slums in Mumbai to become a rapper. I have so much fun watching this movie, because it is unique and has good music.
3. Taare Zameen Par
I think this movie is underrated still, it is about the journey of a boy with dyslexia. This movie makes me empathize with the characters the most, helped by a great performance by Aamir Khan.
2. Dangal
Dangal is a wrestling movie. I loved the story and its characters because the hard work and discipline shown by the daughters in the movie is top quality. Based on a true story of the Phogat sister’s who have won many medals for India!
1. Dear Zindagi
So this is my favourite movie at the moment. Whenever I get depressed or upset this is my go to. I relate a lot to Alia’s character which is the main reason why its my favourite. And it cheers me up!
