Reviewing My 2022 Goals!
It definitely makes sense to review your goals from time to time. How else will you know if you are on target to achieve them or not? It is a little before the halfway point of the year, but, for me, I have reached a natural reflection point. I moved back in with my parents in April and I’m due to move back out in a few weeks. Thus it makes sense to reflect on my goals before moving into my new place. I have made little but not amazing progress in my 2022 goals. But before I review my 2022 goals let me first check in on my longer term goals.

My Long Term Goals
1. Become a Qualified Actuary
I sat my fifth exam in April however I’m unsure whether I’ve done enough to pass or not. I don’t get my results until July which is annoying but in the meantime I can prepare for my next exam which will be in September. For now all I can do is study, with progress mostly determined by exam passes.
2. Save Over 75k for a Deposit
So this goal I made harder for myself and I did decide to take on more risk with my investments, including purchasing stocks and crypto. However global markets have taken a hit so my investments are down right now. However, I’m confident of being on target in 2.5 years time, ideally recession arrives earlier rather than later (if it arrives at all). This goal and the former goal goes hand in hand. So if I concentrate on 1. then 2. will mostly take care of itself.
3. Start Vlogging Weekly on YouTube
I started my YouTube channel earlier this year, however, I’ve only managed to create and upload 5 videos on my Sanjay Patel Kabaddi YouTube channel. It was a good start, but consistency is rewarded on social media and as a result I need to work harder on this goal. But I believe what I need is routine, and my routine is unsettled right now. But I am taking steps to sort this out for Q3 and Q4 this year.
4. Take a Secondment Abroad, hopefully USA
I haven’t made any progress here and that is fully my responsibility. I haven’t yet explored opportunities through my current workplace which is the first thing on the agenda for this goal. So this is something I should focus on later this year.
5. Take up Boxing/Kickboxing and have my First Fight
So as a prelude to this goal I want to focus on getting fitter and back to my healthier weight of 65kg. Which is incidentally one of my goals for 2022. Unfortunately I have made negative progress in this regard but plans are in place to rectify this when I move out next month. More on this later.

My 2022 Goals
1. Pass 4/4 Actuarial Exams
I have since decided to take only 3 exams this year. And so the best I can now do is pass 3 exams. Nonetheless, as I mentioned earlier in my long term goal 1., I haven’t yet recieved my results for the exam I sat in April. So it is hard to say how well I’m doing here. But I have started to prepare for my September exam and studying wise I am doing quite well.
2. Get Promoted
I’m targeting a senior position before the end of the year, and my year started really well. I worked on projects in January and February with great results, but it seems that momentum has dissapated. Slightly hampered by taking annual leave in March and study leave in April. I have now settled back into the rhythm and will be looking to go above and beyond my expected goals at work. Doing so will give me good evidence for a promotion.
3. Learn to Swim
I joined swim classes which were awesome! I started in January and I had 6 swimming lessons before annual leave and study leave got in the way and I lost my routine. Initially I struggled to swim at all, but the instructor was really good and by the 5th lesson I was swimming with a float. I had learnt how to kick my legs and I was in the process of learning how to use my arms. I definitely am looking to get back into the lessons later this year and fully learn how to swim by the end of the year. Front crawl at least.
4. Hit 65kg in Weight Again
So I started on 58kg and I was eating around 2000 calories a day. I then started hitting the gym regularly and increased my intake to 2500 calories. This was going really well and I managed to get to 61kg. Unfortunately after studying and moving back home I have now lost subtantial weight and I’m now 57kg! No doubt exam stress played its part. But I am now devising a better diet plan and gym routine to hopefully reach that 65kg target by the year end.
5. Visit Scotland
No plans to visit Scotland just yet. But I’m thinking of going after my September exam which will be a good time to visit since summer will be over and everything will be a little quieter. I need to save money still, as per my second long term goal and so the plan might be to backpack Scotland. But nothing is decided as of yet!
6. Cross 3 Countries on my Scratch Map
Probably the goal where I’ve made the most progress! In March I visited Bangladesh and coached England in a Kabaddi tournament which was pretty cool. You can read more about Kabaddi here: https://www.englandkabaddi.com/
Late in June I have a trip planned to Croatia with my friends (feel free to give me travel tips)! Ignoring possible flight cancellations, that would take the tally to 2 countries. And thus leave me with just 1 more to visit. However I have no plans to visit any other country at the moment. Maybe this will change later in the year.
7. Hit 1000 Subscribers on YouTube
I did start uploading videos to my Kabaddi YouTube channel, Sanjay Patel Kabaddi. I made a great start but this hit a dead end as I failed to maintain the consistency. I did manage to obtain 20 subscribers which was great but still leaves me with 980 to get in the second half of the year! I think the main goal here is to start uploading consistently again before looking at subscriber numbers.
8. Read 10 More Books
Okay I haven’t read any books so far this year! Although I have been listening to the Diary of a CEO podcast by Steven Bartlett: Podcast Link
10 is now super ambitious for the rest of 2022. I’m going to be naughty and count the podcast as 1 and so that leaves me with 9 more books to read… I prefer non-fiction, any recommendations?
All in all I haven’t progressed very far through my goals, a lot of work for me to do!
