Nepal day 3 and 4: Heading to Pokhara

Just so you have an idea of where Nepal is
Pokhara is where I am now (blue dot)

Day 3

I didn’t get up until past 11, and decided to go straight for lunch instead of breakfast. After which I decided to go shopping to a nearby supermarket and brought some toiletries. They also had a lot of Western brands and I helped myself to a packet of Oreos as a snack for the long journey to Pokhara tomorrow.

Once I got back to my hostel I booked my bus ticket to Pokhara, the bus will leave at 6:30am. So it’s going to be an early night for me. I hope anyway. After packing my backpack again, I left to go to the garden of dreams.

It’s a really nice garden and quite unexpected as there is very little greenery in Kathmandu. At least that’s what it seems like. I spent over an hour here partly because it was nice to relax and partly because I had paid 400 rupees to get in (about ยฃ3).

On my way back I brought a reusable water bottle because I didn’t want to use and pay for so many plastic bottles. I decided to eat away from the hostel at this lovely Tibetan restaurant called Gilingche, where I had this dish called Thakpak which I think is made up because I found nothing about it on the internet. However it was really delicious!

Day 4

My sleep was pretty terrible since I kept waking up every hour, probably because I was anxious not to miss the bus the next morning. I got up at 5:45am and headed to the road where the buses leave from. There’s so many buses! It took me a good five minutes to find my bus.

Once your on the bus you never get the seat you were initially allocated because they only let locals sit at the front. Which is kinda scammy but I didn’t mind, as long as I got a window seat I was happy!

I fell asleep through half the journey and even though it stopped for lunch I didn’t feel like eating. All in all it took 8 hours to reach Pokhara!

Once I arrived in Pokhara I dodged the hassling taxi drivers and I walked for five minutes to the tourist office where I brought my permits for the Annapurna circuit trek, which I’ll start in two days time.

I got a taxi to my hostel to check in and the views were just incredible! And the hostel is so beautifully laid out it was honestly one of the most prettiest places I’ve seen.

I met with Damoon from California, Cassidy and Kaileigh from Canada, and Rumi and Corrina from Nepal itself. I’ve probably spelt all the names wrong but at least I remembered! Oh and there was Noah from Egypt who just completed the trek I’m about to start in the next two days.

We went to the movie garden in the evening which is like an outdoor cinema and we ate pizza which I only managed to eat two thirds of it. The walk is quite scenic next to the lake with the reflections of lights. The walk back was a challenge for me because I’ve got blisters! We slept just before midnight.
