Nepal day 5 and 6: Starting the Annapurna circuit trek

Day 5

I was very lazy today and didn’t get up until 11am. Once I got ready I basically had brunch and had toast and omelettes. I spent some time talking to two Indian guys but I forgot their names!

I left in the afternoon to do some shopping. I got some dried grapes and kit kats as snacks for my trek. But I didn’t want to get too much because then I have to carry it all with me.

On the way back I took the lakeside walk which is really beautiful with cafรฉs and restaurant along the lakefront. At one such cafรฉ I bumped into those two Indian guys I met earlier. When I got back to the hostel I packed my backpack which now feels kinda heavy now that my trek is around the corner.

In the evening I said goodbye to Damoon, Rumi and Corrina as they had a night bus back to Kathmandu. After which I met Mark from the UK who had been in Nepal for 3 months already and a woman from India (forgot the name again!) who had been in Zostel Pokhara for 3 months to this day! She fell out with her mom and so “ran away”, I hope things work out for her.

Day 6

I slept early because I had to wake up at 5:30am in order to reach my 6:30am bus. The worst part was the bus was half an hour late! Also it was so full I had to sit at the back all cramped in. I took the bus to a place called Besisahar which is the starting point for the Annapurna circuit trek. It took around 5 hours.

After I arrived I got my permit stamped and boarded a bus to Nadi. The journey was gruelling and perilous because the “road” was so awful. It’s a dirt road with potholes everywhere and sometimes falling rocks.

The highlight was when 20/30 school children crammed into the already packed bus. It was quite funny and they were enjoying themselves trying to get a seat anywhere, one ended up on my lap!

Anyway once I reached Nadi I had lunch which was veg fried rice and then I started trekking at around 3pm. I hoped to reach the village called Ghermu but every uphill was such a challenge for myself. The heat made me feel so dehydrated and I sweated so much.

I reached a village called Bahundanda and decided to stay there for the night. I had chicken thupka for dinner which wasn’t that good to be honest!
